ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court has turned down Mumtaz Qadri’s appeal against his death sentence for killing former Punjab Governor Salman Taseer. The court threw out Anti-Terrorism provisions in the case.
The IHC announced the judgment and upheld the decision of the Anti-Terrorism Court that had awarded death sentence to Mumtaz Qadri.
Former chief justice Lahore High Court Khawaja Muhammad Sharif has been appearing as Mumtaz Qadri’s lawyer during the hearing of the appeal.
Justice Noorul haq N. Qureshi and Justice Shaukat Aziz had reserved the decision.
Mumtaz Qadri had shot Salman Taseer dead on January 4, 2011. He was an official guard of the former Punjab governor.
