Important CCI Meeting Underway in Capital

Islamabad (November 13, 2017): A Council of Common Interest (CCI) meeting being chaired by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is underway here on Monday.

Sources said that various matters, including the recent population census and delimitation came under deliberation.

The meeting is being attended by the interior minister, industries minister, chief ministers of all four provinces and federal secretaries.

The speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq has already called parliamentary parties meeting on November 15 to discuss the delimitation of constituencies on the basis of recently held census.

Earlier the consultative meeting of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) at Jati Umrah in Lahore also discussed the issue of delimitation in detail.

The high level meeting of the ruling PML-N was chaired by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The marathon meeting, which lasted for hours, discussed overall political situation of the country. Sources said that the PML-N top leadership discussed party strategy for next general elections and starting election campaign.

The PML-N leadership also discussed the draft delimitation bill and opposition parties reservations over population census. During the meeting, it was decided that contact with other parties for passing the delimitation bill would be made.

The political situation of the country and the party’s plan of action for the next general elections was discussed at the meeting, according to sources. Nawaz heard the arguments presented from both sides but did not announce a decision.A decision to strongly protest against a delay in elections and tampering of the process was also taken in the meeting, sources reported that the character assassination campaign of the party leadership would be made unsuccessful.

Attendees agreed on timely elections and decided to create the election cell to prepare for the polling with full fervour.The meeting was attended among others by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Governor Punjab Rafique Rajwana, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullha.
