Islamabad(June 27, 2018): Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan on Wednesday appeared before an appellate tribunal of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in connection with the hearing of his appeal challenging the rejection of his nomination papers for NA-53 Islamabad.
He appeared before Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani who was presiding over the tribunal.
On June 19, the Returning Officer concerned had rejected the nomination papers of the PTI chief, former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Ayesha Gulalai on the ground that they submitted incomplete affidavits and didn’t fill up its clause N.Subsequently, Mr. Khan filed an appeal, requesting the tribunal to set aside the RO verdict and allow him to contest the elections from NA-53.
In response to the appellate tribunal’s summons, he appeared and filled up the clause N of the affidavit in front of the presiding officer.
In the clause, which requires election candidates to highlight their services to their respective constituencies, the PTI chief pointed out that he set up the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital, Namal College and spread awareness among the public about their constitutional rights.Earlier, the Islamabad Election Tribunal on Tuesday allowed former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to contest the upcoming polls from the NA-53 Islamabad-II constituency.
The returning officer for Islamabad’s NA-53 constituency had rejected Abbasi’s nomination papers on June 19. According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Abbasi did not complete the affidavit of the nomination forms.

Justice Moshin Akhtar Kayani, who was hearing the appeal, overruled the returning officer’s verdict.
On the other hand, Election Tribunal Islamabad accepted appeals of Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan, Ayesha Gullalai against the rejection of their nomination papers by the Returning Officer of NA-53 Islamabad.
The tribunal allowed both the candidates to contest elections from this constituency.It is worthwhile to mention here that on June 19, the Election Commission of Pakistan had rejected the nomination papers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leaders Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Sardar Mehtab Abbasi, along with Ayesha Gulalai for the NA-53 constituency of Islamabad.
Meanwhile, today is the last day for decisions by Appellate Tribunals on appeals filed against acceptance or rejection of nomination papers for the National and provincial assemblies’ seats.
The revised list of candidates will be published on Thursday.Candidates can withdraw their nomination papers by Friday and the Election Commission will allot election symbols to candidates on Saturday.
Polling for the general elections will be held on 25th of next month.
