Imran Wishes To Elect Chairman Senate From Balochistan

Islamabad (March 09, 2018): Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan said on Friday that it is his party’s wish that the next Chairman Senate is from Balochistan while deputy chairman is elected from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

The PTI chairman was addressing a press conference, where he said that his senators will not give vote to the Pakistan People’s Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.

He said that his campaign is not against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif but corruption.

He said that PTI Senators would neither vote to Pakistan People’s Party nor N-League for the Senate Chairman slot.He announced to support candidate from Balochistan for Senate Chairman and Deputy Chairman from FATA.

Imran said the people of FATA have rendered tremendous sacrifices, adding that Balochistan and FATA are feeling deprived for some years, therefore Senate Chairman should be from Balochistan while Deputy Chairman be elected from FATA so that their sacrifices be acknowledged.

Chairman PTI went on to say party’s core committee has agreed over Chairman Senate from Balochistan and Deputy Chairman from FATA. He hoped PPP would also support it.

Earlier today, the PPP also claimed to have the required number of votes to elect their own Senate chairman and deputy chairman.

The ruling PML-N, which won the most seats in the Senate elections on March 3, also claimed to possess the required number of votes for electing its own chairman and deputy chairman.

The PML-N’s strength in the Senate is now 33 while the PPP comes in second with 20 senators.

On Thursday, in a dramatic move, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan handed over his party’s 12 senators and authorised Balochistan chief minister to deal on their behalf.

Later, the chief minister announced to support PPP for the top office after holding a meeting with Asif Zardari along with senators-elect from Balochistan.
