India Provides Information About Extraordinary Flood to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: India has finally provided information about the extraordinary flood on Monday night after refusing to share information about water outflow to Pakistan under 30-year practice.

India has released 24,000 cusecs of water into River Sutlej till now, the Indus Water Commission said.

As per the data issued by India, the flow of water released in the Harike and Ferozpur Barrage is 150,000 cusecs while nearly 200,000 cusecs of water can be released into the Sutlej River.

River Sutlej at Ganda Singh Wala would attain & sustain flow 80,000 to 90,000 cusecs (medium flood level) with sharp peak up to 150,000 cusecs (high flood level) starting from between 20th to 21st Aug-2019 night.

The data also revealed that inflows from India at Ganda Singh Wala at River Sutlej was as high as 30,000 cusecs Monday night and it is predicted by that it may surge to 150,000 cusecs in the next 24 to 48 hours.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMA) of Punjab has issued a warning about possible floods to seven districts.

It is pertinent to mention that under the water treaty, India is required to provide data in case of ‘extraordinary flood’ that it had been doing till 1988 floods.
