India: Three killed in car bomb explosion  

BATHINDA: A child among three people have been killed and 15 others injured in an alleged car bomb explosion in Maur Town of Bathinda on Tuesday night.

Indian media termed the blast as an act of terrorism, just four days ahead of assembly elections in Punjab. Rescue officials shifted the bodies and the injured to the hospital. While police launched investigations into the explosion.

The blast took place in a Maruti Alto car number PB05C8973 around 10:30 pm. Indian media reported that Congress candidate from Maur, Harminder Singh Jassi had ended a meeting with members of the local truck owner union not far from the blast site a couple of hours earlier.

Three of the injured were in critical condition and they were shifted to Faridkot hospital. Senior police officers said that they were not ruling out the possibility of an IED being used in the blast.
