Indian High Commissioner To Meet Imran Khan Today

Islamabad (August 10, 2018): India’s High commissioner to Pakistan Ajay Bisaria will today meet Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, who will take oath as prime minister next week, said sources.

The meeting comes as Imran Khan in his victory speech expressed a desire to develop peaceful relations between the countries.

Matters of mutual interest, including evolving a joint strategy to improve bilateral ties, would be discussed in the meeting.

Earlier, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Imran Khan and congratulated him for his party emerging as the largest party in the National Assembly of Pakistan in the recently conducted general elections, an official statement said.

“We are ready to enter a new era of relations with Pakistan,” Modi was quoted as saying by the PTI press release. “Prime Minister expressed hope that democracy will take deeper roots in Pakistan”, the statement further said.

Russian Envoy Calls on Imran, Congrats Him Victory in Polls

Earlier on, Russian Ambassador to Pakistan Alexey Dedov called on Prime Minister-designate and Chairman PTI Imran Khan in Bani Gala and congratulated him on the victory in elections 2018.

The Russian Ambassador expressed the desire to further enhance cooperation between Pakistan and Russia, sources said.

PTI Spokesman Fawad Chaudhry confirmed the meeting.

On Wednesday, the acting Ambassador of the United States to Pakistan, John Hoover also called on Imran Khan at latter’s Banigala residence in Islamabad.

The US Ambassador congratulated Imran Khan over the victory of his party in elections 2018.

Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Mehdi Mehdi Honardoost called on likely Prime Minister Imran Khan and senior leadership of his party at Banigala.

The Iranian envoy congratulated them on their victory in the elections, also discussed matters of mutual interest, according to a press release issued by the party’s Central Media department.

“Iran remains prepared to engage with Pakistan on its agenda of regional cooperation and development,” Mr Honardoost said.

Speaking on this occasion, Imran Khan said that Pakistan was keen to increase trade ties with all its neighbours, including Iran.

Japanese Ambassador Takashi Kurai on Friday called on Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan and congratulated him on his party’s performance in the general elections.

Ambassador Kurai also discussed matters of bilateral interest with the PTI chairman.

Apart from the Japanese ambassador, the British envoy and other foreign dignitaries have also visited the PTI chief in recent days.
