Indian Polls: Presence Of Muslim MPs Reduced In Lok Sabha

NEW DELHI: Number of Muslim lawmakers has been reduced in the Indian Parliament as compared to the previous house after the recent Lok Sabha election which has crushed the dream of several Indians to see a secular state, AbbTakk news reported on Sunday.

According to a foreign news agency, only 27 Muslim candidates managed to reach the parliament after the recent polls and none of them belonged to the extreme rightwing ruling party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which granted tickets to only six Muslim members of the party who eventually lost the battle.

On the other hands, only two Muslim parliamentarians are among the victorious candidate in the recent polls.

Meanwhile, as compared to the previous elections in Bengal the number of Muslim parliamentarians has been reduced by 50 percent. In the previous polls, there were eight successful Muslim candidates and now the number has reduced to four.

Only two candidates succeeded from Bihar while the number of Muslim parliamentarians has also reduced in Kerala and Assam. The head of the All-India Democratic Front Badar Uddin was among those Muslims who succeeded from Assam.

However, the situation was changed in Uttar Pradesh as the number o successful candidates have been increased in the state and rose to six.

On the other hands, head of the Majlis Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen Asad Uddin Owaisi also remained victorious.
