Interior Ministry denies submission of Dawn Leaks report to PM

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister has denied to submit the ‘Dawn Leaks’ inquiry report to the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, adding that the report has been received by the ministry.  

The inquiry report, which was prepared by a commission headed by Justice (R) Amir Raza Khan will be presented to the PM on Wednesday, said Interior Ministry.

Sources said that Chaudhary Nisar, during his meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will present Dawn Leaks report to the PM, in which all the people involved in the controversy were defined. The report exposed the people behind the controversial news.

Dawn Leaks inquiry report held Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi, former Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid and Principal Information Officer Rao Tehseen responsible for the controversy.

The inquiry report recommends the removal of Tehseen and Fatemi, sources said and added that the portfolio of Fatemi on foreign affairs is likely to be changed but he would retain his position.

The report stated that the publishing of the story was a failure on part of some government institutions including Information Ministry and Foreign Ministry.

According to sources privy with the mobile forensics data in report, Dawn newspaper reporter sent at least 11 text messages to then Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid but the minister did not reply to most of the messages.

The inquiry committee comprised one member each from the ISI, MI and IB, Secretary Establishment, Ombudsman Punjab and an FIA director.
