By: Zeenat Khan

Peshawar (November 25, 2017)International violence against Women day is being celebrated in Pakistan and all over the world today.

Violence against women include killing, Domestic violence, Abduction, Rape, Honor Killing, Acid Attacks etc.

It is a bitter truth that women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are more exposed to violence due to absence of laws and male dominance. As per Police reports 1081 cases of violence were reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2017 including 139 of killing, 39 of honor killing, 51 of domestic violence and 658 of abduction.Chairperson of Women parliamentary caucus Mairaj Hamayon told that they prepared a bill for domestic violence that was rejected by council of Islamic Ideology and was declared un-Islamic.

Then the member of Jumat-e-Islami took the responsibility and prepared a new draft keeping in view the recommendations of Council of Islamic Ideology. But that bill was also faced dead lock as some women activists started protests against that it. The bill did not mention the violence against women and it allows the husbands and parents to beat their daughters and wives whenever they deviate.Furthermore the category of psychological violence against women was removed from the bill. So activists declared that bill impertinent.

Religious leader Mufti Huzaifa of Maosque Darwish- Peshawar Saddar told that violence against women is unislamic as Islam has given a great respect to women.

He said that Islam teaches us that how we should treat women in a gentle manner. Law making is the need of the hour and there should be strict implementation of those laws to end the violence against women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he added.
