Iranian Court Hands Death Penalty To Eight Terrorists

Tehran (May 13, 2018): An Iranian court sentenced eight terrorists to death over a 2017 attack on the Iranian parliament, a judicial official said on Sunday.

“Eight people were handed the death penalty and 18 others face trial over last year’s deadly attacks. The convicts have 20 days to appeal. The trials began last month,“ President of Tehran Revolutionary Court Ghazanfar Abadi told the journalists.Iran: 8 Daesh members get death penaltyAttacks on the parliament building and the Supreme Leader Imam Khomeini’s Mausoleum killed 18 people and wounded nearly 50 in June 2017.

The sentences were awarded by the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Tehran. Eighteen other suspects still face charges over the attacks in June 2017 by suicide bombers and gunmen.

Iran has said the five gunmen and suicide bombers who were killed during the attack had previously fought in Syria and Iraq as part of the IS militant group.
