Islamabad (September 14, 2017): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Barrister Zafarullah said on Thursday that it feels like we didn’t get justice in Panama Leaks case.
According to the details, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Barrister Zafarullah said on Thursday that they have presented the stance before the Supreme Court that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s disqualification was not justified under any law.
Zafarullah, along with other PML-N leaders, was addressing the media outside the apex court where the review petitions of the Sharif family and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in the Panama Papers case are being heard.
“In the history of Pakistan, judges giving a verdict are not made guardians of the proceedings,” said Zafarullah, a barrister and legal adviser to the premier.
While responding to a question, the barrister said that the Supreme Court’s decision in the Maulvi Tameezuddin case was not accepted as well.
Barrister Zafarullah claimed that the definition on which ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif was disqualified doesn’t exist in black law dictionary.Another PML-N leader and IT minister Anusha Rahman also addressed the media, saying that the report of the Joint Investigation Team was incomplete.
The court ordered filing of references on the basis of an incomplete report, she said.
She said Nawaz Sharif presented himself and his family for accountability because he has faith in sanctity of the court. She further expressed hope that Supreme Court will decide review petitions according to law and the Constitution. On the other hand, ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer Khawaja Harris told the Supreme Court (SC) that most of the documents gathered by Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT) were from sources.
In today’s hearing, the Supreme Court observed that the documents submitted to the court during the Panama Papers case proved that then prime minister Nawaz Sharif received a salary from a UAE-based company in August 2013.
Continuing his arguments from Wednesday, Nawaz’s lawyer, Khawaja Harris, argued that Nawaz never claimed to receive any salary from FZE Capital.
He added that a proper trial is needed for a lawmaker’s disqualification, saying that if just his election was termed void then Nawaz would only have been barred for one term.
During the proceeding, Khawaja Harris said that the meaning and interpretation of asset is more than one word over which Justice Ejaz Afzal said that it is not written anywhere that you cannot take salary.
Justice Azmat stated that the apex court made its decision in the case on verified facts.
A five-member bench comprising Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan conducted the hearing of review petitions filed by Sharif family.
