NOWSHEHRA: The two-day general congregation of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which started on Saturday, is underway at Azakhel Park in Nowshehra, which has drawn hundreds of thousands workers from across the province.
During the second day, leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami addressed the congregations. People from across the province including the Federally-Administered Tribal Areas are pouring in to attend the meeting even on the second day.
A large number of JI women workers and supporters along with their children are also attending the two-day congregation.
Addressing the inaugural session on Saturday, JI Amir Sirajul Haq said that a certain group of landlords had held the country hostage. He said that the country had been braving US slavery for the last 70 years and now it was time to get rid the country of US’s influence and slavery. He underlined the need of having Sharia-based system in the country for getting rid of US slavery.
It is to be mentioned here that tight security arrangement have been made for the JI’s two-day congregation at Azakhel.
A makeshift city has been beautifully set up at a spacious piece of land measuring about 200 acres at a private township owned by a senior JI member. Some 35,000 tents and curtains have been installed for holding the event and stay of the participants. The preparations, according to the in-charge of the congregation Sabir Hussain Awan, were started two months ago and hundreds of JI volunteers took active part on a daily basis in making the huge arrangements possible.
The land was levelled for the moot and in the process heavy machinery including four excavators, 10 tractor-trolleys and as many damper trucks were used. Around 1,000 toilets have been made for male participants and 300 for female participants at the venue of the congregations.
