JIT Formed To Probe Data Darbar Blast

LAHORE: The Punjab government on Friday constituted a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe May 8 suicide blast outside the Data Darbar in Lahore.

According to a notification, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) SP Sohaib Ashraf will head the JIT. “The JIT will be comprised of IB, ISI and MI officials,” reads a notification.

On the other hand, Important development has been reported in Data Darbar blast as security forces have arrested four suspects believed to be involved in Lahore blast.

According to details, security forces during a late night raid on Thursday picked up four suspects in Lahore’s Garhi Shahu area.

It has been learnt from law enforcement agencies (LEAs) that they had identified the motorcycle rickshaw used to transport the suspected bomber to the shrine.

In video footage obtained by the agencies shoes that the rickshaw driver approached the bomber as the latter approached from Garhi Shahu. The suspect took the rickshaw from near the railway station.

On the other hand, the four suspects which were arrested last night is said to be the key facilitators of the Data Darbar suicide bomber.

The number of casualties on Friday in the Data Darbar blast increased to 12 as 19-year old victim succumbed to his injuries at the Mayo Hospital.

A resident of Lahore’s Lohari Gate, Mudasir Ali sustained severe wounds in the blast that took on Wednesday outside the shrine targetting Elite force vehicle.

On the other hand, the two police personnel who were martyred in the blast were laid to rest after performing their funeral prayers.

Elite Force’s head constable Gulzar was laid to rest in Chak Jan Muhammad Wala, Sargodha and Sohail Sabir Virk was laid to rest in Gujranwala.

On Wednesday, at least 10 people were martyred and 25 others sustained wounds as a suicide bomber had directly targeted Elite Force vehicle outside Gate No. 2 of Data Darbar shrine.
