JIT Formed To Investigate Yaka Toot Blast

Peshawar (July 11, 2018): A Joint Investigation Team(JIT) to investigate into Yaka Toot blast has been formed under leadership of DIG Saleem Marwat.

The committee will submit its report till Monday.

The case of the blast has been registered by CTD against unidentified men on the plea of SHO Yakatut, Wajid Ali.

The death toll in the Peshawar suicide attack, which claimed the life of Awami National Party (ANP) leader Barrister Haroon Bilour, has increased to 20 on Wednesday.

Presently, 65 people injured in the suicide attack are seeking treatment at Lady Reading Hospital, authorities confirmed.

The blast occurred in Yaka Toot area of the provincial capital, as Haroon arrived at the stage to address supporters.

A local ANP leader while talking to journalists said that a suicide bomber blew himself, when Bilour entered the compound where the meeting was being held.

CCPO Peshawar Qazi Jameel said that nearly 8 kilogram of TNT explosives were used in the blast.

The rescue teams and law enforcement agencies reached the site of the blast. Police and bomb disposal officials collected evidence from the site of the blast and initiated an investigation into the incident.

Bilour’s Funeral Prayer To Be Offered At Wazir Bagh Today:

Funeral prayers of Haroon Bilour will be offered at 5 pm today at Wazir Bagh in Peshawar.

The body of Haroon Bilour was later shifted to Bilour House where ANP workers gathered in great numbers to pay respect to their deceased leader.

ANP leader Iftikhar Hussain said the funeral prayers of Haroon Bilour will be offered on Wednesday at 5pm at Wazir Bagh in Peshawar.

According to police, the explosion occurred during a corner meeting of Awami National Party (ANP) in the Yaka Toot area of Peshawar.

Peshawar Explosion: Condemnations Pour In

Caretaker Prime Minister Nasirul Mulk, heads of various political parties and other prominent leaders denounced the attack on ANP corner meeting.

Condemning the terrorist attack, Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Mohammad Raza termed it a “weakness of security institutions.”He said that the attack was a conspiracy to against transparent elections, noting that the provincial governments were ordered to provide fool-proof security to all candidates.Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan expressed sorrow over the deaths of Haroon Bilour and other ANP workers.

In his message on Twitter, Khan condemned the terrorist attack on ANP corner meeting.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif also expressed great grief over the said demise of ANP leader Haroon Bilour and others in the Peshawar explosion.

He said that terrorists were trying to wrap up the democratic set-up in the country. Nawaz Sharif said that terrorists will not be succeeded in their evil designs.Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed sorrow over the martyrdom of Haroon Bilour. He said it was becoming clear as to who terrorists wanted out of the election race.

“The terror attack on pro-democracy individuals is a conspiracy,” Bilawal said, adding that they shared grief of the Bilour family.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shehbaz Sharif said he was “grieved to learn about shahadat of Haroon Bilour” and that he “strongly condemn[ed] this barbaric act of terrorism”.Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) chief Mustafa Kamal said those, who had their hands coloured with the blood of innocents, did not deserve to be considered as humans.

He called the authorities for bringing the perpetrators of Peshawar blast to justice.Mian Iftikhar Hussain, a leader of the Awami National Party (ANP), which had named Bilour as its candidate for Peshawar’s PK-78 constituency in the July 25 elections, said the government had failed to provide security to the party.

“Perhaps someone wishes to sabotage the elections … wants to push the ANP out of the electoral race,” he said. However, the “ANP will fully participate in the elections”, he added.
