LAHORE: The new Joint Investigation Team (JIT) formed to investigate Model Town Lahore tragedy has been challenged in Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday.
The inspector Rizwan’s lawyer Burhan Moazzam filed the petition.
He told the court that new JIT has been formed to probe model town incident, however earlier a JIT had formed to probe the same incident while as per criminal and anti-terrorism court laws second JIT could not be made for the same incident.
“The trial of the model town tragedy has been over while out of 137 witnesses 86 have been recorded their statements in this connection,” he told the court adding that judicial commission and JIT had completed the inquiry in the case, therefore, a new inquiry could not be conducted.
He expressed fear that after the formation of new JIT the trial of the case may be delayed and it also showed dishonesty behind the formation of new JIT.
He requested the court that the formation of new JIT should be declared null and void and stopped it to work further.
