JIT Holds CTD Officials Responsible of Sahiwal Tragedy

LAHORE: Punjab law minister Raja Basharat said that CTD officers have been held responsible for the killing of Khalil’s family in Sahiwal in the initial report submitted by the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference after a meeting that was held to review the JIT’s preliminary report, Basharat said the government has decided to remove several officers of the CTD upon recommendations of the investigation team.

“SSP CTD Sahiwal, DSP CTD Sahiwal and all officers involved in the Saturday encounter will be prosecuted under the anti-terror law,” he said. “SSP and DSP CTD Sahiwal have been suspended.”

About the murder of Zeeshan Javed, he said that the JIT head has asked for more time to investigate further.

“It is a test case for the Government of Punjab. We will provide justice to the heirs of victims,” he said, adding the incumbent government was committed to providing justice.

“Nobody is above the law,” he added.

“Five CTD officers involved in the killing of Khali’s family will be tried in anti-terrorism court,” he said.

To a question, he defended the operation but lamented the killing of innocent people.  “The operation was 100 per cent correct. But innocent people should not have been killed,” he argued.
