Justin Trudeau Visits Gujarat

Chandigarh (February 20, 2018): Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday arrived in Gujarat, where he visited Sabarmati Ashram, Akshardham Temple. In the afternoon, he addressed the students at IIM Ahmedabad.

On the third day of his week-long trip to India, the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau arrived Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state, Gujarat.He visited the Sabarmati ashram in Ahmedabad and the Akshardham temple in Gandhinagar.  Mr Trudeau addressed the students at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. The Canadian Prime Minister will hold bilateral meeting with PM Modi on February 23 during which the two leaders will focus on trade, defense, civil nuclear cooperation, space, tackling climate change energy and education.

 Trudeau’s visit is expected to deepen ties between India and Canada. Accompanied by his family, the 46-year-old prime minister arrived in New Delhi on Saturday evening, where he was received by Minister of State for Agriculture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

Trudeau began the first full day of his visit by taking a tour of the iconic Taj Mahal in Agra and later visited Wildlife SOS Elephant Conservation and Care Centre in Mathura.Remembering Mahatma Gandhi, Trudeau called him “a great inspiration”, adding that he “should be an inspiration for everyone.”

“It is easy and lazy to be cynical. It is harder to be hopeful and strive for the best for the society. You have the gift of education but we have to make sure everyone has that,” he added.

Trudeau also cautioned against treating citizens as “fools,” saying: “Citizens are not fools. Citizens can tell whether someone is genuine in their approach or just trying to live up to some lofty familial expectation.”

He urged politicians to refrain from “dividing” citizens into vote-banks, and instead, dealing with them as “intelligent, reasonable folk.”
