KARACHI: By-elections for PS-127 will be held today in Karachi and more than 0.266 million voters will exercise their right to cast vote in the constituency.
15 candidates including Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) were contesting in the by-elections. The constituency PS-127 comprised of Malir, Saoodabad, Khokhrapar, Jaffar Tayyar Society, Malir Cantonment, Airport , Shadmand Town, Nusrat Colony, Madina Colony and other areas.
The seat was declared vacant after the resignation of MQM dissident Member Provincials Assembly (MPA) Ashfaq Mangi’s resignation.
Total 134 polling stations were established in the constituency. 67 polling stations were declared very sensitive and 49 sensitive.
Male registered votes are more than116,112 and women voters are 91,355 in the constituency. There are 40 percent urban and 60 percent rural voters in the area. Security plan has been devised for the elections. 500 police and Ranges personnel were deployed in the area to perform security duty.
