Karachi: SC expresses anger at absence of federal Secs in marine pollution case

KARACHI: Supreme Court Registry Karachi directed chief secretary Sindh to submit the summary of funds allocated for curtailing disposing off waters of Lari and Malir Rivers and S-III during the hearing of case over disposal of industrial waste and toxic liquid into the sea.

Chief Secretary Sindh and representatives of federal Finance and Planning Ministry, Additional Attorney General, Advocate General Sindh appear in the court which expressing anger at the absence of federal secretaries Finance and Planning & Development asked the reason over which representative of Finance ministry said that he was busy due to meeting of the cabinet. On this the court remarked that it would see how he would not appear if it issues his non-bailable warrant, send it to SP Islamabad with the direction to arrest him.

Drawing court’s attention to two federal schemes over disposal of waste into sea Chief Secretary Sindh argued that these schemes are pending as federal government has not issued the funds. When the court asked for the reason Chief Secretary Sindh said that the federal government could provide better information about it and that the Sindh government is ready to provide its funds.

Calling anti-environmental pollution drive vital the court said that federal and provincial governments have to take action about it.

The court directed the decision should be made after calling meeting of the Commission for Development Planning and budget meeting.
