Karachi University: Teachers boycotts classes to protest Dr Riaz’s arrest

KARACHI: The teachers of Karachi University observed black day and boycotted the classes as a protest against the arrest of one of their colleagues Dr. Riaz.

The teachers strike has resulted in the para-military Rangers being deputed at all entry and exit routes of the Karachi University.

Meanwhile the faculty of Karachi University observed today as black day and boycotted the classes to protest the illegal arrest of Dr. Riaz. The KU teachers demanded immediate release of Dr Riaz.

Heavy contingent of Rangers was deputed during the strike and the boycott.

It may be mentioned that Dr Riaz was accused of being a leader of MQM London after he was arrested a few days ago from the Karachi Press Club when he went there seeking release of MQM London leader Professor Hassan Zafar.

Meanwhile, Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) reserved the judgment over the bail of Dr Riaz. The judgment will be announced later today.

During the hearing og the bail application the counsel of Dr Riaz argued that his client is a professor of chemistry at the Karachi University  and that he has nothing to do with the sacrilegious content belittling the scared personalities.

The Rangers counsel told the court that Dr Riaz has confessed being one of the bloggers who insulted sacred and honorable pesonalities and since the investigations are underway bail should not be granted. In addition, the Rangers lawyer said, the weapons recovered from Dr Riaz is also illegal.
