Khurshid Shah Lashes Out at Govt for Low Attendance in NA

Islamabad (August 22, 2017): Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Khurshid Shah flayed government for low attendance in the National Assembly when the house is to discuss and pass Electoral Reforms Bill 2017.

Speaking in the floor of the house, Opposition Leader Khurshid Shah said that out of the 342 members of the Assembly, only 50 lawmakers are in attendance.

He said the Assembly is scheduled to pass an important legislation today, but the members are not present in the house.

Shah said that he was ashamed to see such a low level of attendance in the assembly today, when the lawmakers were expected to discuss the Electoral Reforms Bill 2017.

He said when the prime minister comes to attend the assembly session, others follow the suit.

Speaker Sadiq also expressed his anger over the low attendance, and directed PML-N chief whip Sheikh Aftab Ahmed to bring in lawmakers in the house.

Sheikh Aftab said he agreed with Shah’s arguments. “I request Shah to get used to this,” quipped Ahmed.

Speaker Ayaz Sadiq directed Ahmed to ensure the presence of lawmakers and ministers of the ruling party.
