PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Mahmood Khan and Doctors Council will hold negotiations today (Tuesday) as the government seeks to end the province-wide protest of doctors which has been ongoing for last six days.
All Out Patient Departments (OPDs) at Lady Reading Hospital will remain open for today, according to an announcement made by Doctors Council convener Dr Sirajul Islam on Monday morning.
Dr Sirajul Islam said OPDs will remain open for two days; Monday and Tuesday, however, the boycott will persist in other health facilities including Khyber Teaching Hospital and Hayatabad Medical Complex.
“Further developments will depend on the meeting with Chief Minister Mehmood Khan that takes place tomorrow. We respect his offer of holding negotiations”, Dr Sirajul Islam said, warning that talks will be boycotted if any action is taken against the protesting doctors.
He added that negotiations will be overruled if provincial health minister Dr Hisham Inamullah will participate in them.
It is to be noted that the doctors are protesting to get their demand fulfilled of filing a case against Provincial Health Minister Hasham Inam Ullah who was seen allegedly brawling with a doctor of Khyber Teaching Hospital last week.
However, the accusations of the doctors were rejected by the provincial Health Minister.
