Lahore: Farmers protest continues despite release of central leaders

LAHORE: Though the central leaders were released after talks with the government the central president of Pakistan Kissan Ittehad Khalid Mahmood Khokhar says that till the release of other arrested colleagues and workers and acceptance of demands the farmers sit-in will continue.

Khokhar was released along with provincial president of the outfit Rizwan Iqbal and Capt (r) Muhammad Hussain were released around 3  o’clock last night and they joined the farmers staging sit-in at the Mall Road and addressed the workers.

Talking to media Khalid said that farmers wanted to stage protest against Indian aggression and for their demands but the police arrested 3,000 farmers including me without any reason. Of the Rs 341 billion agriculture package announced by the federal government the farmers received only Rs 30 billion while farmers did not receive anything from Punjab government’s Rs 50 billion package for farmers, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar is responsible for destruction of agriculture in Pakistan, he added.

Khalid announced burning effigies and taking out symbolic funerals of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ishaq Dar today.

It may be mentioned that Kissan Ittehad had tried to take out a protest rally from near Data Darbar yesterday over which police had arrested scores of farmers.

The farmers are staging sit-in on Mall Road in front of Punjab Assembly which is severely effecting traffic flow all around the area.
