Lahore (October 11, 2017): Riyadh-bound flight PK-755 carrying 300 travelers made emergency landing at Allama Iqbal International Airport here after it caught fire midair after taking off from Sialkot Airport.
After landing at Lahore airport all the passengers were evacuated safely from the aircraft and firefighters managed to extinguish the plane fire after about an hour with Rescue teams surrounding the plane.
Though the staff of the Engineering department of PIA, the national flag carrier airlines of Pakistan, was also present it was not allowed to get near the aircraft as the firefighters tried to extinguish the fire.
A statement issued by PIA spokesman said that during the flight pilot observed smoke in the cockpit which lead him to suspect the engine had caught fire. However, the statement said, on subsequent inspection by the relevant authorities at Lahore airport no fire was detected.
Terming the emergency landing and the plane catching fire midflight incorrect the spokesman said th Flight PK-755 called the landing a touch-down as routine at the Lahore Airport. A complete checking of the aircraft is underway once the Airlines Engineering Department gives the clearance the flight will leave on its onward journey to Riyadh, the spokesman added.
