Land Sliding in AJK: Death Toll Jumps To 12

AZAD KASHMIR: A number of casualties have reached 12 in a landslide after heavy downpour in Rawlakot Azad Kashmir.

Rescue workers and locals of the area in Hajerea area of Rawlakot in AJK have retrieved dead bodies of 10 persons buried in debris after the landslide in the area which incldued two children and death toll jumped to 12.

Assistant commissioner of Hajerea has feared that some people might have also been stuck under the debris of houses while he has sought Pakistan Army’s assistant in this regard.

Earlier, at least seven people including two children lost their lives when a landslide hit their houses in Rawalakot city of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

The landslide took place due to heavy rain and destroyed four houses. Several people were also injured in the incident.

According to assistant commissioner Rawalakot, two bodies have so far successfully retrieved from the debris while rescue workers are searching for bodies buried in the landslide amid unusually heavy rain.

Meanwhile, heavy rain continued in parts of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P). Due to the rain, landslides were also expected in Hazara, Malakand division, Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) and the mountainous region of the AJK.
