LB Representatives End Protest Outside Sindh Assembly

Karachi (June 9, 2017): Local bodies’ members, including Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar, staged a protest against lack of power and resources outside the Sindh Assembly on Friday.

Announcing the decision to end the protest Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar said that the Local Bodies representatives will return back to Sindh Assembly to record their protest at the next session of the Assembly.

Earlier the protesters marched towards the Sindh Assembly and tried to enter it, however, the gates were closed and a heavy contingent of police was deployed at the site.

Speaking to the protesters, Wasim Akhtar targeted his remarks towards ruling party and said that PPP has destroyed the whole Sindhincluding Karachi. But we, the elected representatives, will not let you destroy Karachi. he added.

The protesters claimed that the government in the budget had failed to approve the schemes hatched by the local bodies’ representatives.

Before the protest, in a press conference regarding budget on Wednesday, Wasim Akhtar had slammed the Sindh government for not including a single development scheme proposed by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation in the annual development programme 2017-2018.

He had stressed that Karachi has been repeatedly neglected in the Sindh budget. He also regretted that not a single scheme had been kept for Karachi’s District Central.
