ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday said that the local bodies representatives would be empowered to solve the basic problems of masses.
He was chairing a meeting of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) where issues relating to elections of Chairmen, Vice Chairmen of District Councils, Majors and Deputy Mayors of Punjab came under discussion.
The meeting was attended among other by federal ministers, senior party leaders and PML-N Punjab leaders. The meeting discussed party’s strategy regarding the election of mayors, deputy mayors, chairmen and deputy chairmen in Punjab.
Addressing the meeting, the Prime Minister said that local bodies were the basic unit of democracy and a functional local bodies system would strengthen democracy.
The meeting was attended by Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Ahsan Iqbal, advisers and special assistants to the PM, provincial ministers of Punjab and PML-N Punjab leaders.
