London (August 19, 2017): Legendary British television personality Bruce Forsyth has passed away at the age of 89.
Though the cause of death has not been revealed, the beloved game show host has been known to have experienced health problems over the last few years.
Forsyth was recognized in 2012 by Guinness World Records as having the longest television career for a male entertainer. With a career in the field of entertainment that has spanned over 75 years, Forsyth has hosted numerous successful game and variety shows since the 1950s, including The Generation Game, Play Your Cards Right, and Strictly Come Dancing, and also played roles in movies such as Star! and Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
The multi-talented television personality became well-known as an actor, singer, dancer, comedian, and game-show host. The news of Forsyth’s death came from an announcement from his manager, Ian Wilson: It is with great sadness that the Forsyth family announce that Sir Bruce passed away this afternoon, peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife Wilnelia and all his children.
Born in 1928 in England, Forsyth got his first taste of the entertainment industry at the age of 11 in 1939. As he grew older, Forsyth established a reputation for his strong-man act while working in a circus performance. However, Forsyth gave up the act when he was drafted into the Royal Force.
In the 1950s, Forsyth returned to his work as an entertainer and got his big break when he became the host of the television variety show Tonight at the London Palladium, which he hosted for six years. His popularity became apparent when one episode, which aired in 1960, was viewed by over 20 million people. This led Forsyth to receive his own show, The Bruce Forsyth Show, which aired from 1965 to 1969.
In recognition of his achievements in television, Forsyth has been honored with dozens of awards, and was even knighted “Sir Bruce Forsyth CBE” by the Queen. Forsyth was also granted the honor of carrying the Olympic flame in London in 2012.
