LHC Asks Govt to Decide Maryam’s ECL Case in 7 Days

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday forwarded Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice-president Maryam Nawaz’s plea to the Ministry of interior with orders to decide the matter in seven days.

A two-member bench of the high court, headed by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi, presided over the hearing into a petition filed by Maryam, to remove her name from the ECL so she can visit her ailing father [Nawaz Sharif] in London.

Maryam’s counsel, Amjad Pervez in his arguments said the name of her client was placed on the ECL, without listening to her point of view and it’s against laws of state.

“You should have approached the cabinet first before coming to the LHC”, the bench remarked.

Pervez alleged that a rival party of the PML-N is ruling the country, it will not allow Maryam to fly to London.

Court asked, how can you predict that government will not allow? to which Pervez replied, Shehbaz Sharif’s case revealed everything about government.

The court after hearing arguments from Maryam’s counsel send the matter to the government’s review committee and asked it to decide on the matter within seven days.

The court in its short verdict also said that the applicant can move the LHC, after the decision of the review committee.
