Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday imposing a ban on the use of polythene bags has called a report from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
The one-member bench of LHC comprising Justice Shahid Kareem heard the petition filed by the Haroon Farooq. While Abuzar Salman Khan Niyazi advocate represented the petitioner in the case.
The petitioner counsel argued that there are still many cities in Punjab where the use of the polythene bags are continued adding that these bags are responsible for pollution and requested the court to order banning its use.
To which the court ordered to ban the use of polythene bags across the province along with it the hounourble judge also ordered the DEP to strictly implement the order.
Besides that, the court also directed to strictly impose the ban in shopping malls and departmental store as well.
It is pertinent to mention here that before this the court has ordered the use of plastic bags in all stores, bakeries, hotels and pharmacies.
