LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday ordered the Young Doctors Association (YDA) to end their strike till 12 pm today.
During the hearing of a case against doctors’ strike, the representatives of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), College of Physicians and YDA were presented in the court.
The YDA counsel told the court that there was no strike in out patient departments (OPD) and these are post-graduate trainees, not young doctors.
“Medical Teaching Institutions (MTI) ordinance is premature,” he said.
To this, the judge gave remarks that “it’s now necessary to know about the nature of the strike. The Health Secretary is responsible that matter is holding for so long. Stakeholders should sit together to resolve the issue.”
The court also directed the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) and Punjab government to take action against the striking doctors as holding strike during duty hours is a crime.
Moreover, the judge ordered the young doctors to submit in writing that they will end the strike by 12 pm today. He said the court will form a committee that will look after the issues of doctors.
