LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday rejected the bail pleas of Khawaja brothers, Khawaja Saad Rafique and Khawaja Salman Rafique in the paragon housing society scandal.
A divisional bench of LHC headed by Justice Baqar Najafi heard the bail petitions of the Khawaja brothers in the paragon housing society scandal.
The counsels of Khawaja brothers and the anti-graft body prosecutors appeared before the court for the hearing.
The NAB prosecutor told the court that Khawaja brothers had made a housing scheme on the name of Debonair Private Limited back on June 30, 2019, and the company name was changed to Paragon in August 2003.
The anti-graft body counsel informed the court that inquiry against the Khawaja brothers for assets beyond the limit kicked off back in the year 2000 while the inquiry closed after they won prize bond worth of Rs 49 million.
The NAB counsel said that Khawaja Saad Rafique and his wife used to doing business remained at the background while Khawaja Saad Rafique is the sole runner of the paragon housing society.
The counsel of Khawaja brothers told the court that Nadeem Zia and Qaiser Ameen Butt are the friends of the Khawaja brothers but are not the partners adding that the NAB recorded statement of Qaiser Ameen Butt twice in the court of judicial magistrate while the body rejected his statement first and later recorded his statement of their choice later.
The court asked why they recorded a statement for the second time? The Khawaja brothers counsel said that the first statement was not of choice of the Chairman NAB adding that earlier inquiry against the Khawaja brothers continued for three years and it was not closed on any winning of the prize bond and the NAB had apologized the Khawaja brothers at the time of closing of the inquiry.
The LHC bench rejected the bail petitions against the Khawaja brothers while the counsel of the Khawaja brothers said that he will challenge the LHC verdict in the Supreme Court.
