LHC reserves judgment on petition to stay Lahore mayor’s election

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) reserved its judgment on a petition pleading to stay the upcoming mayoral election until decision on a pending petition challenging qualification of Khwaja Ahmad Hassaan, the PML-N candidate for Lahore’s mayor.

It is to be mentioned here that Advocate Sheraz Zaka had filed the petition, contending that the election of Mr Hassaan as chairman from UC-107 is already challenged before the court.

He argued that since Mr Hassaan was also contesting elections for Lahore mayor, it will be wastage of taxpayer’s money if the court disqualifies him while deciding the petition.

The advocate pleaded the court to stay the election of Lahore mayor scheduled for Dec 22 till the petition against Hassaan is not decided.

Justice Shahid Karim of LHC reserved his judgment on the petition after hearing arguments from both sides.
