LHC sets free 30 bonded labourers from kiln owner’s ‘private jail’

LAHORE: Lahore High Court on Monday set free 30 bonded laborers who were kept in illegal detention by a brick kiln owner and directed police to take action against the brick kiln owner as per law.

LHC judge Abdul Sammi Khan heard a petition of a citizen Muhammad Javed. The petitioner had pleaded the court that a brick kiln owner of Bhukkar had illegal detained his relatives for the last three years and they were made bonded labour.

On previous hearing, the court had directed a court bailiff to recover the detainees and present them in the court. A court bailiff had raided the brick kiln owner private jail and recovered the bonded labours. On Monday the bailiff produced 30 bonded labours including eight women and 12 children in the court.

The court set them free and directed police to take action against the brick kiln owner as per law.
