PM Suggests To Form Committee Over NAB’s Allegations

Islamabad(May  09, 2018): Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said a parliamentary committee should be constituted to investigate the allegations of laundering 4.9bln Dollars to India levelled by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Speaking in the National Assembly on Wednesday, he said the committee should summon the Chairman and other officials of the NAB and seek evidence and relevant record from them in support of their allegations.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi also urged the opposition to consider bringing amendments to the Accountability Law. He said the political parties had already agreed to these amendments and further debate or a meeting will be held to move forward the process.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the institution of NAB was established by a military dictator to change the loyalties of members and break up the political parties.He regretted that the political parties failed to make the NAB such an institution which fulfills the requirements of justice and play its due role against corruption.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that several NAB cases are being heard against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, but he does not expect justice being delivered in the cases.

He noted that justice must not only be done but it must also be seen to be done.

The Prime Minister said that the allegations levelled against the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also amount to pre-poll rigging.

Earlier today, Chief Minister Punjab, Shehbaz Sharif criticized National Accountability Court for serving level notice to former PM, Nawaz Sharif to explain the alleged transfer of $4.9bn to Indian exchequer.

Talking to the media, Shehbaz Sharif said that the entire nation is shocked over the notice whereas State Bank and World Bank have also denied the allegation.

Punjab CM urged Chairman NAB to take notice of the matter. “The NAB is quite active in Punjab while it is nowhere to be seen in other provinces,” he criticized.Earlier, Maryam Nawaz, daughter of the Former Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif has reacted over the allegations of money laundering of billion Dollars to India by NAB.

Maryam said in her twitter message that the “I guess money was sent through pigeons by India, which are caught by the NAB”.

Earlier, Information Minister, Maryam Aurangzeb criticized NAB over sending notice to the party supremo Nawaz Sharif, NAB has no proof, investigation against Sharif Family is underway on rumors, minister added.

Earlier, Defence Minister Khurram Dastagir Khan  lashed out over National Accountability Bureau and termed their notice against former PM against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif a ‘joke’.

It may be recalled that yesterday, National Accountability Bureau ordered an inquiry against former Premier, Nawaz Sharif and others for allegedly laundering $4.9 billion to India.

According to statement issued by NAB, Chairman Justice Retired Javed Iqbal has taken notice of media report about money laundering of $4.9 to India.

According to the media report, this incident is mentioned in the World Bank’s Migration and Remittance Book 2016.

The statement claims that the amount was laundered to the Indian Finance Ministry after which Indian foreign exchange reserves witnessed an increase.
