Karachi (March 25, 2018): Islamabad United dominated with the bat and ball as they defeated defending champions Peshawar Zalmi by three wickets on Sunday to lift the trophy of the third edition of the Pakistan Super League.

The highlight of the match was United opener Luke Ronchi’s rapid 52 of 26 deliveries, making Zalmi’s fighting total off 148 runs look relatively easy.

 Peshawar pacers appeared to have brought their team back into the game in the late over as Islamabad wickets fell in quick succession, but some late hitting by Asif Ali helped United make it over the finishing line for the second time in the history of the tournament.

 In the middle of the game Peshawar pacers brought their team back into the game after opener Luke Ronchi’s rapid half-century helped Islamabad close in on a 149-run target in the final match of the Pakistan Super League 2018 at the National Stadium in Karachi.United opener Ronchi fired all cannons as he scored 52 of 26 deliveries, making Zalmi’s fighting total of 148 runs look relatively easy. But wickets in quick succession by the Zalmi bowlers brought the defending champions back into the game.Ronchi was dismissed by Chris Jordan in the ninth over, while Sahibzada Farhan scored 44 before being sent back to the pavilion by Wahab Riaz.

Late blitz by fast bowler Wahab Riaz lifted Peshawar Zalmi to a fighting total of 148 runs against Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League final.

The tail-ender offered resistance to the JP Duminy-led team with his 28-runs off 14 balls innings, in which he scored four boundaries and one six to give a margin to the ‘Men in Yellow’ bowlers.

Earlier Peshawar Zalmi set 149 runs target for Islamabad United in the final of the PSL. Zalmi won the toss and elected to bat first against Islamabad United. Zalmi scored 148 runs on nine wickets in the 20 overs match.

7:10 PM: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has arrived at the National Stadium to watch the most important match of Pakistan Super League. Peshawar Zalmi will take on Islamabad United shortly.

6:10: Closing ceremony of PSL3 begins at National Stadium. Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Najam Sethi, before the colourful closing ceremony took the stage, thanked the crowd for coming in great numbers. He also praised Federal Government, Sindh Govt, Police, Rangers and the Armed Forces for making the PSL final a great success.

6:05 PM: Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar has arrived at the National Stadium to watch the PSL Final.

6:00 PM: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah arrived at the National Stadium to watch the historical match between Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi.

5:35 PM: National Stadium’s gates will remain opened till 7 pm. PSL management has taken the decision to facilitate the cricket fans. Considering the time-consuming security checks,  the management has extended the time for spectators to enter the stadium by two hours. Director Media PCB Amjad Bhatti said that the ticket holders can now enter the venue till 07:00 pm.

3:20 PM: The PSL final craze in Karachi has reached to such a peak that even the cinemas who are offering to watch final match on big screen have sold out all of their tickets due to huge response.

The cinema owners on Sunday decided to show the PSL final on Sunday instead of the movies and put the tickets on sale which were sold out before the final match commenced.3:10 PM: The Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah is taking an aerial review of the security situation in and around and on the routes of the PSL match to be played at the National Stadium Karachi.

2:45 PM: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leaders Asad Umar and Arif Alvi are playing bet over the win of the Peshawar Zalmi in PSL final in Karachi with the later one offering to serve Nihari on the win of the Peshawar team.2:30 PM: The home minister Sindh Sohail Anwer Sial visited the parking arrangements at Hakim Muhammad Saeed ground. He said that he would be visiting the stadium to watch match on his purchased ticket.“My favourite team is Pakistan,” he said adding that they had done the maximum of the arrangements they could do for the PSL final.

2:15 PM: In his tweet from DG ISPR handle, Maj General Asif Ghafoor said that PSL Final brings more glitters to ‘City of Lights’. Thanks to PCB, foreign players, govt administration, security apparatus and the resilient Pakistanis. Terrorism imposed on us is on the way out; we are on the way to our rightful destination of enduring peace and stability.

2:10 PM: Former Pakistan captain and the incumbent Islamabad United captain Misbah ul Haq has been ruled out for the final match between the Peshawar Zalmi and the Islamabad United in National Stadium Karachi today.

He is replaced by Jean-Paul Duminy as the captain of the team. The former Pakistan player has been ruled out due to a hairline fracture on his wrist.Misbah picked up the injury in a final league-round match against Karachi Kings.

This is the third major injury to the Islamabad squad. Before this, the team lost their vice-captain Rumman Raees as he was ruled out due to a knee injury.

Andre Russell also suffered an injury early in the competition. It was particularly disappointing for the West Indian as he was returning from a year-long ban for a doping violation.

Injury also bared the star Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi from playing an all important third eliminator match of the PSL between Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings. Karachi Kings lost the match by 14 runs.

The cricket fever is on the rise in the city of lights as the matches of international standards have returned to the city after almost nine years.

Other than those who would witness the cricket match at the stadium, special arrangements have also been made to watch the final match in the Karachi Central Prison and a big screen would be setup for the inmates to watch the live proceedings of the final match inside the prison premises.

Karachi Arts Council has also announced to show the live proceedings of the final match in the open theater.

The chief minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah has also directed the authorities to place big screens in parking areas around the national Stadium Karachi so that the drivers who were coming with the spectators could also enjoy the match proceedings.

The Pak Sarzameen Party had also announced to setup screens in different parts of the metropolis so that the people who were unable to get tickets could also enjoy the match proceedings.
