LAHORE: Unknown armed men gunned down a local leader of Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP-P) Babar Sohail Butt in the wee hours of Monday.
The deceased was PPP’s ticket holder of PP-157 constituency. In the early hours of Monday, unknown armed men opened fire on Butt leaving him critically injured.
Butt was rushed to Service Hospital in injured condition where he subsumed to his injuries during treatment.
Police suspect Babar’s aide Atif alias Aati could be involved in his assassination, as he reportedly facilitated the attackers to barge into Butt’s house
Police further added that the incident appears to be a consequence of “old rivalry”.
The deceased’s body has been shifted to hospital for autopsy. Family members and a large number of party workers gathered outside the hospital.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, his sisters Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, and other PPP leader condemned the murder of Butt. They demanded of the government to immediately arrest the assassins and punish them.

Aseefa in her tweet expressed hope that an investigation is conducted into the murder and miscreants involved prosecuted.
Babar had contested provincial assembly elections on PPP-P’s ticket in 2013 elections.
