London Tower Blaze Claims 17 Lives

London (June 15, 2017): At least 17 people have been died and above 75 suffer burn injuries in Grenfell Tower blaze on Wednesday.

According to the details a 24-story apartment building caught fire early Wednesday in west London and soon the blaze turned out of control and engulf the entire building. The exact cause of the fire is not yet known. Rescue officials evacuated 65 people from Grenfell Tower in north Kensington.

British Prime Minister Theresa May said that there would be a full investigation and “if there are any lessons to be learned they will be”. “Several hundred” people would have been in the block when the fire broke out, most of them sleeping.

Commander Stuart Cundy, of the Metropolitan Police, said: “Sadly I can confirm that there are now 17 people that have died that we know of”.

“This is going to be a long and complex recovery operation and I do anticipate that the number of fatalities will sadly increase beyond those 17.”

He said several people were still unaccounted for. “Sadly, I don’t anticipate there will be further survivors,” he added

London Fire Brigade Assistant Commissioner, Steve Apter, said there were “still pockets of fire yet to be extinguished in places particularly difficult to reach” but “almost all” of the building had been searched.
