Malala Urges To Rebuilt Damaged Schools In Gilgit

Web Desk (August 04, 2018): Nobel Peace Laureate and educationist activist Malala Yousafzai has demanded that 12 girls schools damaged by militants in Diamir district of Gilgit-Baltistan must be rebuilt immediately.

Responding to the reports of 12 girls schools set on fire by militants in Gilgit-Baltistan, Malala tweeted “We must rebuild these schools immediately, get the students back into their classrooms and show the world that every girl and boy has the right to learn.”Malala went on to say, “the extremists have shown what frightens them most – a girl with a book.”

Earlier on Thursday night At least 12 girls’ schools were attacked in Chilas, about 130 kilometres from Gilgit, police, revealed sources.

Unidentified men attacked 12 girls’ schools across Diamer district and damaged school property, according to the police.

The attackers also torched some items in the schools, sources continued.

“Explosions were also set off in two schools,” they said.

Police have started a search operation in the area to arrest those responsible.

According to the district administration, the schools that were attacked were under construction.Officials added that they will ensure adequate measures are taken to safeguard schools and students.

Following the attacks, local residents staged a protest at Siddique Akbar Chowk demanding the arrest of culprits and seeking safety for educational institutes.

Girls’s schools are often the target of attack in the northern areas of Pakistan.
