Marathon NSC Meeting Devises Policy over US Threats

Islamabad (August 30, 2017): The National Security Committee, which met here with Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in the chair, devised a policy regarding US threats.

The Committee’s meeting held here at Prime Minister House.

The meeting was attended by top military leadership including Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Air Chief Air Marshal Sohail Amaan and Naval Chief Admiral Zakaullah, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and intelligence chiefs.NSC Meeting Starts at PM HouseThe meeting devised a response to the US policy on Afghanistan.

The meeting, which lasted for four hours, discussed government’s strategy to engage ‘friendly’ countries following Trump’s statement and the countries response.

Federal Minister Interior Ahsan Iqbal, Foreign Minister Khuwaja Asif, Defence Minister Khurram Dastgir, Advisor to PM on National Security Lt. Gen (retd) Nasir Janjua and others also attended the meeting.This is second meeting of the top military and civilian leadership following Trump speech, as soon after the unveiling of new US policy the committee had already met and unanimously rejected the allegations leveled against Pakistan by the US President.

Yesterday, the prime minister also chaired the federal cabinet meeting over the issue.During last week’s meeting of the NSC, it was decided to contact other friendly countries and take all stakeholders into confidence regarding Pakistan’s reservations over the new US policy.

The country’s top civil and military leadership was in attendance to discuss issues of national security.

The prime minister chaired a meeting of the federal cabinet on Wednesday, which was the first cabinet meeting following Trump’s ‘anti-Pakistan’ comments during his South Asia policy speech last week.
