Shutter Down In IoK Over Martyrdom of Youth

Srinagar (July 11, 2018): A protest shutdown called by Hurriyat leaders being observed across the Kashmir Valley today.

According to Kashmiri media, Hurriyat leaders Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mir Waiz Umer Farooq and Yasin Malik, called the valley-wide shutdown against the continuing killings of civilians by the Indian security forces.

Two civilians were killed and over 20 civilian protesters injured during a gunfight in Shopian district yesterday.Shops, other businesses, public transport and educational institutions remained closed in Srinagar and other district headquarters of the valley on Wednesday even though private transport and some three wheelers were seen moving on uptown and city outskirts in Srinagar. Mobile Internet services also remained suspended in most parts of south Kashmir.Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) an umbrella of Trade bodies headed by Haji Mohammed Yasin Khan has supported the Kashmir wide shut down call given by Joint Resistance leadership (JRL) against continuous civilian killings.The troops killed the youth during a violent cordon and search operation in the area. Indian police and troops fired bullets, pellets and teargas to disperse the protesters, triggering clashes between the demonstrators and the forces’ personnel.
