Mashal Father Files Petition in PHC to Relocate His Son Case

Peshawar (June 10, 2017):  Father of Mashal Khan has filed a petition in Peshawar High Court (PHC) pleading the court to issue directives for transferring Mashal murder case to Peshawar or any other city from Mardan.

Iqbal Khan, father of the slain student of Abdul Wali Khan University, who was lynched by a mob on blasphemy charges, filed a petition in PHC.

In his petition, Khan said that due to security concerns he could not pursue the murder case of his son in Mardan. He added that influential people were involved in the murder of Mashal who can influence the trial.

He added that the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) had completed its investigation and Challan was to be submitted in the court following which trial will start.

He pleaded the court to transfer the murder trial to Peshawar or ATC Haripur or any other suitable place.

Mashal’s father further sought the court to order jail trial, saying that in this way security concerns could be addressed.

Mashal, a student of AWKU’s Journalism and Mass Communications Department, was shot and beaten to death at the university’s boys hostel by an angry mob that accused him of posting sacrilegious remarks on social media.

However, the joint investigation team constituted to investigate his murder concluded that Mashal Khan was victim of a conspiracy hatched by some student leaders and university employees.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan had taken suo motu notice of the brutal murder that shocked the entire nation. A 13-member JIT was also formed to probe the tragedy. Dozens of people including students, AWKU employees and local political leaders were rounded up after the killing.
