Mashal lynching: RPO Mardan submits report in Supreme Court

ISLAMABAD:  Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police on Tuesday submitted report in Supreme Court in Mishal lynching case, which also include the statement of Mashal’s friend Abdullah, who was also subjected to torture by the mob.

The report has been submitted in pursuance of the Supreme Court directives in suo-motu case of Mashal murder.

As per the report, on the day of the incident the university administration was investigating blasphemy charges against Mashal and his friend Abdullah had been summoned.

According to the report submitted by RPO Mardan, Abdullah in his statement reordered under section of 164 of CrPC said the university administration was not happy with Mashal over his interview with a private TV channel. During the probe, some of the committee members leveled allegation against Mashal of committing blasphemy, which he rejected.

He added that some of University employees locked him in a bathroom and subjected to severe torture. The report said that the university administration phoned Mardan police at 12: 52pm, asking police to come to the university without informing about the rioting in the varsity. Responding the call, DSP Hyder Khan reached the university and rescued Abdullah from the enraged mob.

The report said that besides obtaining CCTV footage of the incident, the record of call data of DSP Hyder Khan was also retrieved. It added that police had included University employees and faculty members in investigation.
