Peshawar (November 04, 2017): The inquiry team constituted by Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to probe into the alleged negligence and the loopholes over the role of the police in the Mashal Khan murder case has cleared police officers by scapegoating two low-ranked cops.
Sources said that the investigation team had saved the high police officers, who were even present at the university at the time when an enraged mob lynched Mashal Khan, the Mass Communication Department student of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan.
The team has given clean chit to SP Operation Rauf and DSP Sheikh Matloon Haider.However, the inquiry team recommended demotion of Sub Inspectors Saleem Khan and Mudassir. Both the Sub Inspectors have also been stripped of 5-year increment over their negligence in dealing with the situation.
At the time of Mashal Khan murder, Haider was SHO of Sheikh Matloon Town Police Station while Mudasir was posted at Police Station Toor as SHO.Sources said that the two sub-inspectors were made scapegoats to save the skins of the officers mentioned above.
It is to be mentioned here Inspector General of K-P Police Salahudin Mehsud had constituted an inquiry team to determine the police’s role in Mashal murder.
