Mastung, KP Incidents: Nation Mourning Today

Islamabad (July 15, 2018): Pakistan is observing a day of mourning today (Sunday) to pay tributes to the martyrs of recent terrorist attacks in Mastung and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The announcement to this effect was made by Prime Minister Nasirul Mulk in Islamabad on Saturday with the aim to also express grief and solidarity with the victim families. The prime minister office has also directed the interior ministry to formally issue a notification in this regard. The national flag will fly at half-mast on the occasion.The announcement was made a day after a suicide blast killed 131 people at a political rally in the town of Mastung, near the Balochistan provincial capital Quetta.

The deadliest attack was the latest in a series of bombings targeting campaign events in the last week, sparking fears of more violence ahead of nationwide polls on July 25.

It may be recalled that on July 13, Blast in Mastung took lives of at least 197 people including Nawabzada Siraj Raisani, a younger brother of former Balochistan chief minister Aslam Raisani.

The militant Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack through its Aamaq news agency.

More than 150 people were injured in the blast, who were shifted to nearby hospitals. It is one of the biggest terror incidents of the year.

Raisani is a candidate of the recently-formed Balochistan Awami Party from PB-35 constituency and also the younger brother of former Balochistan chief minister Nawab Aslam Raisani.

Four Dead, 15 Injured In Attack Over Akram Durrani’ Convoy

Earlier on July 13, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl’s leader Akram Khan Durrani’s convoy was  attacked in Bannu, resulting in the deaths of four people and injuries to around a dozen others.

According to the details, the convoy was attacked with a bomb, when it was heading for an election campaign in the area, Akram Durrani is safe.

Akram Durrani is contesting elections from NA-35 from the platform of Muthaida Majlis-e-Amal(MMA).

Security forces reached the crime scene soon after the incident and cordoned off the area.Durrani has served as Minister for Housing and Works in the cabinet of former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi from August 2017 to May 2018.

According to the initial reports 3 women and 2 policemen are amongst injured of the incident.

Earlier on, corner meeting of Awami National Party(ANP) was attacked in area of Yakatoot, KPK, in which 22 people were martyred including ANP’s candidate Haroon Bilour, while 65 injured.

Earlier on Thursdaythe caretaker Prime Minister Justice (R) Nasir-ul-Mulk directed for enhancing the security of all political leaders.

He issued the directive during a meeting with Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and Caretaker Chief Minister Dost Muhammad Khan in Peshawar.

The Prime Minister expressed sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the recent suicide attack in Peshawar.The Governor and Chief Minister briefed him about the steps taken for maintaining peaceful atmosphere in the province.

The Caretaker Interior Minister Azam Khan was also present on the occasion.
