Medical Board Examines Nawaz Sharif In Adyala Jail

Rawalpindi (July 23, 2018): Medical Checkup of former Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif is underway at Adyala Jail by PIMS’s four-member medical board on Monday.

The medical board comprising cardiologist Dr Naeem Malik, Medical Specialist Dr. Shaji Siddiqui, neurologist Dr Sohail Tanvir and Dr Mashood will send a report to the inspector general of jail after which decision to shift Nawaz to the hospital will be taken.

Nawaz Sharif reportedly fell ill at the Adyala Jail on Sunday. Sources said that he is facing multiple health issues as the former prime minister is suffering from heart, glyceride, cholesterol and diabetes.

Jail Authorities Deprived Nawaz Of Basic Facilities: PML-N Spox

Earlier today, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb on said the nation is concerned about Nawaz’s medical condition in jail.

“PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif had written letters to the caretaker premier and Punjab chief minister to appeal to provide basic amenities to Nawaz,” Marriyum said.

The PML-N leader asserted, “Jail authorities deprived Nawaz of basic facilities.”

According to doctors Nawaz Sharif should be immediately shifted to hospital, Marriyum Aurangzeb added.“Nawaz’s condition worsened due to denial of facilities,” she added.

Meanwhile, a petition to declare house of ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar as sub-jail has been submitted in Supreme Court’s Lahore Registry.

The petition was filed by the chairman of Watan Party Barrister Zafarullah Khan in which, he stated that references against former PM are pending at accountability court.

Nawaz Sharif held office of PM for three times, therefore, his house can legally be declared as sub-jail, he added.

Federation, Punjab Chief Secretary, Home Secretary and Inspector General of the jail have been named in the petition.

Earlier On July 16, Maryam Nawaz and Nawaz Sharif were expected to be shifted to Sihala Rest House after former Punjab CM and PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif wrote a letter to caretaker Punjab government seeking better facilities for them at Adyala Jail.

Shehbaz had asked the authorities to ensure continuous provision of medicines and medical examination to Nawaz Sharif from his personal doctor.

Maryam Nawaz and Captain (r) Safdar, who were candidates for the forthcoming general elections were also disqualified from contesting elections for 10 years each.

The sentence and a fine of 8 million pounds, or $10.6 million, came almost a year after Supreme Court removed Sharif from office and less than five months after the court barred him from holding office for life.

Nawaz Sharif was convicted under section 9(a)(5) of the NAB ordinance.
