Meeting Of SA Parliamentary Committee Overseeing Rehabilitation Work In Affected Areas Held

Karachi: A 11-member parliamentary committee meeting comprising of members of Sindh Assembly (SA) established for overseeing the ongoing rehabilitation work in the areas affected by recent rains and floods was held today in the chair of acting speaker and Chairperson Rehana Leghari at SA committee room.

Member of the SA, Syed Owais Qadir Shah, Ghahnor Ali Khan Isran, Peer Mujeeb Ul Haq, Mumtaz Chandio, Rana Ansar, Sacha Nand Likhwani Sachal, Naseem, Syed Amir Ali Shah were attended the meeting.

The United Nation resident coordinator Julian Harnees, representative of NDMA, Director PDMA, PHF, NHN were briefed the participants over rehabilitation work in the affected areas.

The parliamentary committee will oversee world and national institutions rehabilitation work in the flood affected areas and distribution of aid in the in the floods victims.

According to the United Nation resident coordinator Julian Harness said that as many as 33 million people were affected from the recent floods

The victims rehabilitation is a major challenge for the government and international organizations, she said.

Julian Harness said that she had worked before in the three continents during the natioal calamities but devastation which happened in Pakistan she has never seen.

She said that the Pakistani nation has full capability tackling the destruction, only right and meaningful solution for this capacity is needed.

She said that the UN wanted that a SA special committee comprising its members will play their role in the rehabilitation work in the affected areas.

The aim of this committee is to make institution working in the affected areas more responsible, she added.

Chairperson of the committee and the acting speaker SA Rehana Leghari at the occasion said that the parliamentary committee is not a decision making committee but the purpose of the committee is to speed up and making relief work impressive.
Rehana Leghari said that we have to build a new Sindh while joining hand together adding that the cold season is approaching and which will add difficulties of the floods victims.

She thanked the United Nations including other welfare organizations for extending help in the difficult time.

She said that Sindh government can’t alone tackle this situation but the Sindh government responded well in the tough situation.

The acting speaker SA said that the purpose of the committee is to carry out impressive work in the limited resources.
