Kuala Lumpur (August 03, 2018): US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo arrived in Malaysia Thursday, the first stop of his South-east Asian tour.
According to details, South-east Asian tour is expected to focus on North Korea’s commitment to denuclearisation and simmering maritime and trade tensions with Beijing.
State Department officials said, Pompeo will push for sustained pressure on Pyongyang to destroy its nuclear arsenal, urging the region’s leaders to enforce UN sanctions on the hermit state.
According to international news agency, Pompeo is set to hold talks with Mahathir Mohamad in Malaysia, who was returned to power in May.
According to details, Pompeo will then travel to Singapore to attend an annual forum Saturday that brings together top diplomats from 26 countries and the European Union for talks on political and security issues in the Asia-Pacific.
According to international news report, Pompeo’s last stop will be in Jakarta, where he will seek to reinforce relations with a key US ally.
