Military courts: 28th Constitutional Amendment Bill to be tabled in Senate today

ISLAMABAD:  The 28th Constitutional Amendment Bill, 2017 seeking revival of the Military Courts for another two years will be presented in Senate today.

The Bill was passed by National Assembly on Tuesday with 255 votes in favour and four against, surpassing the two-thirds majority required for the measure.  After the passage from upper House of the Parliament, it will be sent to the President for assent.

The Pakistan Army (Amendment) Bill, 2007, which was passed unanimously by the NA yesterday, will also be presented in Senate.

It is to be mentioned here that the military courts were disbanded on Jan 7 after a sunset clause included in the legal provisions under which the tribunals were established, expired.
